Notice To Admin
July 2, 2009, 5:49 pm
Sam Davyson writes...

I'm not sure who is now the head of Chemistry at High Storrs I imagine whoever it is they do not have access to the admin area of this website. I'm an old student of the school and I built this website for Mr McDaid when he taught at High Storrs. I'm happy to pass on the login details to anyone who would wish to use it.

Please email hschem@davyson.com for more info. Many thanks.
New Web Address
November 6, 2006, 10:29 pm
We are now called hs.davyson.com for the moment until we become fully integrated with the new school website.
Easter School
November 6, 2006, 10:29 pm
Easter school proved to be a great success, with students joining us from both Notre Dame and All Saints. I was impressed by the standard of knowledge and commitment shown by all who attended. I'd like to pass on my thanks to all those who attended, and hope to see students from other schools joining us next year. Even the Sheffield Telegraph got wind of what the students were doing and published a small piece about it.

Website Frenzy
November 6, 2006, 10:28 pm
Site access reaches new levels. In following the re-launch of hschemistry.co.uk, access to the website has gone crazy!! We had 1500 hits so far in January, easily beating our previous best of 950 last June. The first graph below shows access during the last 12 months, with the build up to exams being clear to see in May, June and January. The second graph shows a typical 7 day period, including the times of day the site is accessed, and it is evident that we have some 'night owls' amongst the sixth form.

Food Science
November 6, 2006, 10:28 pm
There is a new student guide for Food Science (Unit 5b) available from the React website. I have added a link in the food science pages and this will take you straight to it. This supersedes the printed version you have been provided with in school. It now includes an excellent glossary at the back, as well as a dedicated practical section.

Chemistry Tutor Access
November 6, 2006, 10:21 pm
We now have access for our Sixth Formers to resources at Liverpool University Chemistry Department. Students will need to collect a username and password from the department to access Chemistry Tutor, but all the other resources are free to be used by everyone.

Edvanced Extension Award
November 6, 2006, 10:20 pm

This year we will again be entering some Y13 students for Advanced Extension Awards (AEAs).
They are designed to challenge the most able advanced level students by providing opportunities for students to demonstrate greater depth of understanding than that required at Advanced GCE.
They ensure that the most able students are tested against standards comparable with the most demanding to be found in other countries.

Past Papers now online
November 6, 2006, 10:19 pm
Past papers for AS and A2 will be online by 6/1/06. Marks schemes and examiners reports will be made available when required. Students will need passwords to access these resources and these will be available from your teachers after the holidays.
New Text Books
November 6, 2006, 10:18 pm
Every student in Y12 and 13 now has a copy of Advanced Chemistry for You. This book was chosen by both staff and students as being our preferred choice. It has been purchased to enhance the understanding of the topics taught in our Nuffield syllabus and should be an excellent tool for some quality home study.

Revision Guides
November 6, 2006, 10:18 pm
New revision guides now published by Letts. As far as we are aware, they are the only ones available that link to the Nuffield Syllabus. Amazon sell them at 9.99 each.

AS ISBN 1843154250

A2 ISBN 1843154382

November 6, 2006, 10:17 pm
A lot of the materials on the website are being converted into pdf files for ease of download. You will need to download Acrobat Reader from Adobe to view them. They are all compatible with Version 5.0 or later.
Support Lessons
November 6, 2006, 10:17 pm
Support lessons are now available for all Y12 students. They will be held after school on a Monday or Tuesday. Check out the notice in the window in Lab 139 for dates and the names of teachers taking each session. Any Y13 students resitting units are most welcome to attend.
